Which Mumbai businesses move to Zoho Books?
Businesses that move to Zoho Books have usually outgrown one accountant on one Tally machine. Around Mumbai they tend to fall into four groups.
Trading houses
Wholesalers around Masjid Bunder, Kalbadevi and Crawford Market who bill all day, give credit to hundreds of parties and want to see receivables without phoning the office.
Importers and exporters
Firms that buy or sell in foreign currency, clear goods through Nhava Sheva and need landed cost and exchange differences recorded correctly.
Professional and financial firms
CA practices, advisory and broking firms in Fort, Nariman Point and BKC that bill for services, deduct and suffer TDS, and want invoices sent and tracked automatically.
D2C and media businesses
Young companies with online payments, subscriptions and investors asking for monthly numbers by the fifth of the month.

Who does the migration, and from where?
Our team works from one office in Kolkata. There is no Biz Systems office in Mumbai. An accounting migration is done from data exports and screen-sharing with your accountant, so it does not depend on where either side sits. We hold a fixed video session every week, answer daily questions on WhatsApp, and work Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 7 PM. Our Advanced partner status can be checked on Zoho's partner directory.
What changes when a Mumbai trader moves from Tally to Zoho Books?
| Daily task | On Tally today | On Zoho Books |
|---|---|---|
| Checking who owes what | Ask the accountant, or wait for a printout | Open receivables on a phone, by party and by age |
| Bank entries | Typed from the statement | Bank feeds bring transactions in; you match them to invoices and bills |
| Payment reminders | Phone calls from memory | Reminders sent on a schedule, with a payment link if you use a gateway |
| E-invoice and e-way bill | Separate steps or a separate utility | Generated from the invoice screen |
| Working with the CA | Send a backup file | The CA logs in to the same books |
| Sales team access | None, or a shared login | Each user gets a role limiting what they can see and edit |
Tally remains a sound product, and for some businesses it is still the right choice. Our full comparison is on Zoho Books vs Tally.

Worked example: an importer in Masjid Bunder
This is an illustration, not a client. A family-run importer of food ingredients has an office in Masjid Bunder, a rented godown in Bhiwandi, one GST registration, about 900 customer ledgers and two accountants on Tally. Purchases are in US dollars and sales are in rupees on 30 to 60 days of credit.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | Tally exports are reviewed. Of the 900 customer ledgers, say 240 have had no transaction in two years and 35 are duplicates. The family decides what to carry over. |
| Week 2 | Zoho Books is configured: GST settings, invoice templates, multi-currency for dollar bills, user roles for the accountants, the owners and two salespeople. |
| Week 3 | Masters, opening balances, open invoices and opening stock are loaded. The trial balance in Zoho Books is matched to Tally to the rupee. |
| Week 4 | The accountants are trained on billing, purchases, banking and GST. The owners are trained on the mobile app and reports. |
| Days 1–30 after | Parallel run. Every transaction goes into both systems. At month end the two sets of books and the GST figures are compared. |
| Cut-over | Tally becomes read-only. Thirty days of support from us begin. |
Licence for this business: Zoho Books Standard at ₹749 × 12 = ₹8,988 a year before GST, as listed by Zoho on 5 October 2026, if the Standard plan's user and feature limits are enough. A higher plan may be needed for more users or features. Check with the pricing calculator.
How does Zoho Books handle GST, imports and exports?
Zoho Books India edition raises GST invoices with HSN codes, generates e-invoices and e-way bills from the invoice, records TDS on bills and receipts, and prepares the data for your GST returns. For Mumbai's import-export trade, three more things matter.
- Foreign currency. Bills and invoices are raised in the currency of the deal. The exchange rate is stored on each transaction and the gain or loss is posted when payment is made.
- Imports. Overseas purchase bills, customs duty and clearing charges are recorded so that the cost of the goods in stock reflects what they cost to land.
- Exports. Export invoices carry the GST treatment that applies to them and can be issued in the buyer's currency with your bank details for remittance.
Tax positions on specific transactions are for your CA to decide. Our job is to make the software record what the CA has decided, the same way every time.
How does the migration run, step by step?
- Discovery call. Thirty minutes on video with your accountant, free. We look at the Tally company together.
- Count what is in Tally. Ledgers, parties, items, open bills, voucher volumes and customisations are counted and reported back to you.
- Agree the rules. The chart of accounts, invoice numbering, credit terms, approval limits and who may edit what are decided and written down.
- Clean and migrate. Masters first, then opening balances and open transactions as on the cut-over date.
- Match the trial balance. Zoho Books is compared with Tally before anyone starts using it.
- Train by role. Accountants, billing staff and owners are trained separately, and the sessions are recorded.
- Parallel run for 30 days, then cut-over and 30 days of support.
What does it cost?
There are two costs. The Zoho Books subscription is paid by you to Zoho: Standard starts at ₹749 per organisation per month billed annually, and Zoho offers a free plan for businesses with turnover under ₹25 lakh. Our migration fee is a one-time fixed price. We do not publish a range for it because it depends on what is in your Tally company: the number of ledgers and items, the years of history you want, the number of GST registrations and whether stock is involved. You get the figure in writing after the review, before any work starts.
Where have we done this before?
We have completed 30+ Tally migrations. None of the clients we name is in Mumbai. The closest published example to an import-export business is the Duratuf group: Duratuf Global Trading L.L.C. on the UAE mainland and Duratuf Products FZE in a UAE free zone run Zoho Books with multi-currency, bank reconciliation and receivables dashboards, alongside the Indian manufacturer Duratuf Products on Zoho One. More examples, including NowPurchase, are on the case studies page, and our service overview is on the Zoho Books page.
When is Zoho Books alone not enough?
Add Zoho Inventory, from ₹999 per organisation per month billed annually, when you hold stock in several warehouses, track batches and expiry dates, or sell through online channels. Add Zoho CRM when the sales team needs its own pipeline. Move to Zoho One when HR, payroll and support are also on the list, and to Zoho ERP when you manufacture.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a Tally to Zoho Books migration take for a Mumbai business?
Two to four weeks to set up Zoho Books and move your masters, opening balances and open transactions, followed by a 30-day parallel run in which your team enters the same transactions in both systems. The Zoho Books ledger goes live only after an accountant has matched it to Tally.
What does Zoho Books cost in India?
As listed by Zoho on 5 October 2026, the Standard plan starts at Rs 749 per organisation per month billed annually, and there is a free plan for businesses with turnover under Rs 25 lakh. Higher plans cost more. Our migration fee is separate and is quoted as a fixed price after we review your Tally data.
Do you come to our Mumbai office for the migration?
Usually there is no need. We are based in Kolkata and do the migration on video with your accountant, working from Tally exports you send us. On-site workshops in Mumbai are held when a project needs them, for example when stock in a godown has to be counted and set up alongside the books.
Will our CA be able to work in Zoho Books?
Yes. You can invite your chartered accountant as a user with access to the reports, ledgers and GST data they need. For a Mumbai firm whose CA sits across the city in Fort or the suburbs, this replaces sending Tally backups, because both sides look at the same live books.
Can Zoho Books handle import and export transactions?
Zoho Books supports multiple currencies, so purchase bills and sales invoices can be raised in dollars, euros or dirhams with the exchange rate recorded and the gain or loss posted on payment. Export invoices and import purchases are recorded with the GST treatment that applies to them. We set this up for Mumbai importers and exporters during implementation.
Does all our old Tally data move to Zoho Books?
Masters, opening balances, unpaid invoices and bills, and stock on hand always move. How many years of past vouchers to bring is a choice: more history means more cleaning and a higher price. A common choice is to bring the current financial year and keep the Tally company as a read-only archive.
Is Zoho Books enough for a business with stock in Bhiwandi?
Zoho Books has basic item and stock tracking. A Mumbai distributor with several warehouses, batch or expiry tracking, or online sales channels should add Zoho Inventory, which shares items and invoices with Books. A manufacturer with production should look at Zoho ERP.
When is the best time of year to switch from Tally?
The start of a financial year gives the cleanest opening balances, but a mid-year switch is common and works well. What matters is that the 30-day parallel run covers one full GST return cycle, so your accountant can file from Zoho Books once and compare the figures with Tally.
